An American Redstart that we banded on 5/22/17 was photographed on its wintering grounds in Brasil! This bird was photographed in Boa Vista, State of Roraima, Brasil, which is roughly 4,775 km away from where she was banded, if one were to take a direct route, which birds rarely do. That is quite the distance for a bird that weighs roughly 9 grams!
