Woodcock Walk

Join EBO for our first ever Crawford County Woodcock Walk! American Woodcock are odd members of the shorebird family, shunning the beaches for woodlands. They’re especially known for their quirky appearance and unique evening aerial displays during their breeding season.

Woodcock Township hosts good numbers of American Woodcock every year. We’ll take advantage of their fidelity to display sites to hear and hopefully even see the “sky dances” they perform during the peak of their display season.

Participants will get a brief overview on the natural history of American Woodcock and will be prepped on what to expect before we settle in to enjoy the show. The trail is fairly accessible although the first 50 yards from the parking lot to the trail can be a bit rocky. Plan to walk a total of 1.5 to 2 miles round trip.

Dabblers and Divers

Mid-March is a great time to look for waterfowl migrating north, and Presque Isle offers a great opportunity to find and observe many of our dabblers and divers! For this outing, we’ll be caravaning to different spots around the park to look for ducks, swans, loons, grebes, and more. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one. EBO Guides will also have several scopes on hand.
